ImageThe vineyard of Château La Brande has belonged to the same family since 1750.

It is situated on a slope with ideal exposure, right in the middle of a prestigious wine area, and produces wines of very great quality.
 
The current growers, Jean-Jacques and Jean-Charles Béraud, are specialised in agriculture and oenologie and have dedicated all their know-how to their vineyard and their wines. They would be delighted to welcome you to their estate and to share with you their passion for the great wines of Fronsac.

Terroir

Our vines cover a surface area of 20 hectares, most of wich are situated on directly south-facing slopes. The soil is made up of limestone and clay. The subsoil is composed of the famous Fronsac molass, which is found in all the great wine terroir of the region.
 
Grapes varieties

In keeping with the whole of the right bank of the Dordogne river, Merlot is the predominant variety, covering 75% of the vineyard. Then comes Cabernet Franc (still known as "Bouchet") whith 20% and Cabernet Sauvignon with 5%. 

Some historical background

From the top of the hill overlooking the village of Fronsac there are splendid views over the Isle and Dordogne valleys.This was therefore an excellent look-out point to guard the confluence. Charlemagne set up his camp here in 769. He was also the one who introduced the securing of the barrels with metal hoops for transport. Much later, Cardinal de Richelieu, the Duke of Fronsac, ordered the building of a "folly" here for "fêtes galantes".
